What to bring

Even though you need to walk yourself, you can make easier when you come prepared! This is a checklist of things you need to bring.

Clothes
Maybe the most important one is to wear proper shoes. The trails are rocky, sometimes steep and depending of the time of the year it can be a bit slippery (wet season).

Keep in mind that the weather on the mountain can be unpredictable. During the day it will be warm, so wear comfortable cloths. During the night it can get cold, so bring warm clothes as well. Also bring your rain- and wind jacket.

Sleeping
In all of the (basic) huts there are beds or mattresses available. Blankets are however limited available, so please bring a proper sleeping bag.

Food
On the mountain there is no supermarket or restaurant available. Clients can choose to bring their food or choose to go “full board”.

In all the huts in the evening a wood-fire is made for heat and self-catering cooking. However, you need to bring your own pots, pans, plates, mugs or cutlery. If you don’t have these yourselves, please mention it upfront so I can provide this for you (against an additional fee).

Additional costs for full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) depend on the desired program, but is relatively expensive. For full board a separate chef will accompany the group to prepare the meals. If you are interested in this, please reach out for a custom quotation.

Every hut has a caretaker, he is the one who manages and takes care of the cottage. He also provides firewood and hot water for a shower (for a small tip) if you want. When we are lucky he also has provided some soft drinks and beers.

Water
It is not necessary to bring a lot of water. After two hours of hiking on the first day, we will take a brake at a small waterfall. From this point onward we can drink the water from the mountain.

Other
Bring sunscreen and a hat. Some parts of the trail we walk trough the woods, but most of the time you will feel the sun on your skin. And last but not least, don’t forget to bring your camera! The views from the mountain are spectacular, you really want to be able to share this with your family and friends!

Secure parking
If you have a car, it’s for example possible to securely park your car at Karao’Mula in Mulanje. From the parking we can directly start hiking up the mountain via the Boma path.
